Ground Breaking - Success!

As I reflect back on the last few weeks of events, I have an overwhelming sense of excitement and pride!
Tomorrow we are closing on our construction loan. After the ink dries, we will own a piece of land! It's kind of scary taking on such a large loan and having everything be official and "real", but also it's exciting because it's the first big step. Everything up to this has been talking and planning, but this part is actual DOING! I jokingly asked Susan Goans if after we signed the loan documents tomorrow, if we could go to the lot and pitch a tent since it would officially be our lot! She said that technically, we could, but the men who would be there moving dirt around probably wouldn't appreciate it! The next step after the loan closing is the ground breaking. I am so excited to finally be getting started! I can only imagine what the next 6-9 months are going to be like with a new born and building a new house. I'm a little nervous, but mostly just excited to see all of the planning and preparations come together and start creating something!

The whole thing just feels so unreal to us.  The thought of building a brand new house in a safe neighborhood to raise our children for not much more then what we pay to rent a home from public housing in Wichita. It all just seems to good to be true.  I'm sure once it is all done is when it will really hit us that we actually did it and made a real dream come true.  But we would have never had this opportunity without Interfaith, thank you!

I have had a lot of people reach out to me since the article was released. Wanting to know more information and if they qualify, people offering to help my son and i. I didn’t realize we would be helping more than just ourselves with this program…but also raising awareness for other single moms like myself and showing them they can have a better life. It’s very neat.           - Sadie

On October 20, 2014, Interfaith Housing Services, Inc. hosted a ground breaking ceremony for South Hutchinson.  I personally don't believe I was prepared or even expected the attention from the local community and across the United States.  As you see the day after the ground breaking ceremony news about the ceremony was everywhere.  As you see from the list below this was huge!

On November 2, 2014, Interfaith Housing Services, Inc., hosted another ground breaking ceremony in Partridge for the Mitts family.  As this ground breaking was a celebration for the community.  The community of Partridge has opened their arms and embraced the Mitts Family.

So now you ask what's next . . . within no time at all dirt was flying, and concrete was mixing.  This week framing will begin on the homes in South Hutchinson.  Family members contributed their first work day yesterday, and were extremely excited!

We are always looking for volunteers, groups or anyone interested in the program!
